Effective date: 2026-03-09  ·  TraceBrief v1.0

No data sold
Local storage only
No server uploads
Captures on your action only

TraceBrief ("we", "our") is a browser extension that helps you capture evidence for bug reports — screenshots, screen recordings, reproduction steps, and context — and export it as ticket-ready packs. This policy explains what data is involved and how it's handled.

Plain English Summary
TraceBrief captures content only when you click Screenshot / Record or start step logging. Nothing is captured passively.
Evidence and notes are stored locally in your browser — on your device, not our servers.
We do not sell your data.
We do not transmit your evidence to our servers — unless you choose to upload or share it using your own tools.

Data We Collect

TraceBrief may collect or generate the following data inside your browser as part of its single purpose — creating evidence packs for bug reports and issue documentation.

01
Website Content user-triggered
Screenshots (visible viewport, selected area, or full-page), screen recordings including optional audio, and any on-page content visible within your capture.
02
User Activity user-triggered
Reproduction steps you manually record — step notes you enter, and basic step events captured when the Step Logger is active.
03
Web Page Context for your packs
Page URL, page title, timestamp, browser name and version, OS, and viewport size. Captured automatically to provide structured context in your evidence packs.

What We Do Not Collect

TraceBrief does not intentionally collect any of the following:

  • Passwords or authentication tokens
  • Credit card or payment details
  • Personal messages (email, chat, or messaging app content)
  • Precise GPS location
  • Health or medical information
Screenshots and recordings capture everything visible on your screen at the time. Avoid capturing sensitive information you do not want stored in your evidence pack.

How We Use Data

We use collected data solely to operate the extension's single purpose. This means:

  • Creating and managing your evidence packs inside the extension
  • Showing previews of screenshots and recordings within the extension panel
  • Exporting your selected evidence as HTML, ZIP, CSV, or JSON files
Your data is never used for advertising, analytics, profiling, or any purpose beyond creating your evidence pack.

Data Storage & Retention

  • Evidence packs are stored locally using browser extension storage (chrome.storage.local).
  • Data remains on your device until you delete it inside the extension or uninstall the extension.
  • Exported files (ZIP, HTML, CSV) are saved wherever your browser saves downloads — we have no access to these files after export.

Sharing & Selling

  • We do not sell your data.
  • We do not share your data with any third parties.
  • TraceBrief does not upload your evidence to our servers.

When you share an exported file (e.g., attaching a ZIP to a Jira ticket or emailing a report), that transfer happens through your own tools and is subject to those tools' privacy policies — not ours.

Security

TraceBrief uses a strict Content Security Policy and safe rendering patterns to reduce the risk of script injection inside extension pages. Exported HTML files use sandboxed rendering to prevent execution of embedded scripts.

Exported packs should be treated as sensitive documents if they contain customer data, internal system information, or personal details captured in screenshots.

Your Controls

You have full control over your data:

  • Delete individual evidence items or entire packs at any time from within the extension
  • Choose which items to include before any export — nothing is exported automatically
  • Uninstall the extension to remove all locally stored extension data

Children's Privacy

TraceBrief is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has used the extension in a way that involves their personal data, please contact us so we can address it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
